There are different levels of readiness of engineering graduates from various parts of the world. One of the main themes of this series is how to reduce the readiness gap around the world. The special focus is given to Industrial Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering including Engineering Management. Are the engineering graduates ready to take on the challenges of the current global economy? With the great success of Global Engineering Education Series of last IEOM conferences, IEOM 2017 EU Conference will have a dedicated session for the Global Engineering Education where distinguished speakers will discuss the readiness of engineering graduates for workforce around the world. Thirty six featured speakers will be from various part of the world to address engineering education challenges and opportunities.

Each speaker needs to submit a title of the talk, abstract and a short bio as well as power point presentation. All will be included in the IEOM 2017 EU Conference proceeding. Between these requirements the work-readiness of graduate young engineers became one of the central elements of their employability. However, even with the continual increase in a highly qualified engineering workforce in Europe, in most of the industry employers have real difficulties in finding adequately qualified and ready to work young candidates for vacant engineering occupations. This situation indicates an important mismatch between industry demand and labour market supply. What are the principal raisons of this mismatch? How to make a better adaptation between expectations and reality? How the relationship between industry and academia should be reconsidering in order to reduce these mismatches?

2:55 – 3:20 (Monday)

Dr. Stuart C Burgess

Professor of Engineering Design
Department of Mechanical Engineering
University of Bristol
Bristol, BS8 1TH, UK

Stuart Burgess completed an engineering apprenticeship with Stothert and Pitt Cranes in Bath whilst completing a thin sandwich degree in mechanical engineering.
