IEOM Industry Solutions sessions will showcase the industrial case studies and their impacts of the industrial solutions using IE / OM tools and techniques (lean, six sigma, FMEA, simulation, design of experiments, optimization, TOC, PLM, CAE, statistical analysis, safety, reliability, etc.) IEOM 2021 Rome Conference will have a dedicated session for the Industry Solutions where distinguished practitioners provide their presentations including their experiences and journey to be successful. Speakers will be from various part of the world to address industrial challenges and opportunities for continuous improvement and sustainability.

Reduction of mistakes in the application of IE functions by the use of Critical Thinking
Dr. Watson earned a B.S. and an M.S. in Industrial Management from The Georgia Institute of Technology, was commissioned and spent two years in the U.S. Army where he taught Production Manufacturing Systems for the University of Maryland during a tour of duty in Viet Nam. He has been employed as a manufacturing engineer, production manager and safety manager for various companies for over thirty years and recently as a consultant for Everest Group International. He obtained his PhD in Industrial and Systems Engineering from North Carolina A&T State University where he taught manufacturing processes, including asset maintenance, manufacturing planning and management, and supply chain management as an Adjunct Professor in the School of Technology. He also has taught applied calculus at American University in Washington, DC. He has successfully installed many applications of Industrial Engineering in a variety of manufacturing facilities, including lean manufacturing, JIT, quality and productivity improvement programs. He has authored numerous articles on the application of technology to manufacturing, several of which he presented at engineering conferences. He has authored a textbook, entitled Critical Thinking – Learning from Mistakes and How to Prevent Them and is currently writing another textbook which will be titled Integration of Methods Improvement and Measurements into Industrial Engineering. He also holds a Green Belt in Six Sigma.

Ing Danilo Mascolo, MBA, started his career as researcher in the University Federico II, where he graduated summa cum laude in Electronic Engineering and Information Theory. In June 2002, He joint STMicroelectronics as R&D Manager and PM of emerging technologies with application in Flexible Electronics, Energy Harvesting, Si-Optics, Embedded Computing & AI. As principal investigator, He drove Molecular and Carbon-based Electronics in US, UE and Singapore, where he contributed to start operations of a new R&D Centre. In July 2009, He moved in Confindustria Emilia-Romagna – the Federation of Industry Associations – as CIO deploying innovation and strategic management counselling services to the Associate Companies Network (>7.000) . Over the years, He supported >1.000 companies in consolidated and digitalized value chains and was involved in > 100 innovation and R&D UE/National funded projects with overall 150M€ budget. Today He is the head of Innovation and business development of the national competence center on Big Data and Applied-AI for Manufacturing. He often joins as independent expert evaluation pool in the European Commission on topics like Quantum Technology, Material Science, Cyberphysical System-of-Systems, HPC and AI and supports as advisor start-ups and private equity|seeds funding. During his activities, he wrote several papers and chapters to books, filled 65 patents and PCT and was lieted top-10 inventors on nanotech 2006-2009 in EPO.

Flexible Automation through Human-Robot Collaboration to Enhance Ergonomics and Performance in Industrial Assembly: a Case Study
Luca Gualtieri is an Industrial Engineer specialized in manufacturing and logistics. He is also a certified Occupational Health and Safety Manager and Trainer, mainly focused on safety of machinery. He is working in the Smart Mini Factory lab as research fellow and doctoral candidate for the Industrial Engineering and Automation (IEA) group of the Faculty of Science and Technology, Free University of Bozen-Bolzano. He is responsible for research in the field of industrial collaborative robotics. In particular, he is focusing on human–machine interaction from the point of view of the operator’s occupational health and safety conditions, ergonomics, and shared workplace organization. He is involved in the EU project “SME 4.0—Industry 4.0 for SMEs” as well as industry projects on collaborative robotics and workplace design.
